Is the Millennium Happening Right Now? | Michael Rowntree
Епизоди
Michael Rowntree held to premillennialism for years, mostly by default because nearly everyone he knew was premill. Then he preached through the book of Revelation and hit Chapter 20. In the first of two episodes on Revelation 20, Josh sits down with Michael to talk about the thousand-year reign of Christ and what the rest of the New Testament says will happen when Jesus returns. ABOUT THE EPISODE Josh and Michael begin by walking through premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism, including the different branches within each. They also look at how Christians have held these views over the centuries, from Justin Martyr and Augustine to Luther and Calvin, and into the nineteenth century, when dispensationalism took hold. Michael then turns to the New Testament passages that speak most clearly about Christ’s return, including John 5:28–29, 2 Thessalonians 1:9–10, 1 Corinthians 15, and Romans 8. He explores what they say about the resurrection, the final judgment, the end of death, and the renewal of creation. Josh raises the hard questions each view has to answer, Ezekiel’s temple among them. This is a secondary issue, and we want to talk about it like one. Michael makes his case, but he holds it with an open hand, and he’s clear that believers who land elsewhere are still his brothers and sisters in Christ. 0:00 – Introduction 1:10 – The World Made Right 3:06 – Defining the Millennium 4:31 – Premillennialism Explained 8:40 – Postmillennialism Explained 11:22 – Amillennialism Explained 19:00 – Millennialism in Church History 24:54 – Events at Christ's Return 38:31 – Death Swallowed Up Forever 45:25 – Romans 8 Creation Renewal 53:57 – Challenges for Premillennialism BOOK GIVEAWAY: www.theremnantradio.com/giveaway BOOK: 📖The World Made Right by Michael Rowntree: https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ RESOURCES MENTIONED: - Regnum Caelorum, Charles E. Python, Leviathan, Rahab, the Greek sea god Triton, and even a squid. Jennifer LeClaire’s The Spiritual Warrior’s Guide to Defeating Water Spirits names them all as marine demons working near bodies of water. What does Scripture actually say about these figures? ABOUT THIS EPISODE At The Remnant Radio, Josh, Michael, and Michael take the demonic seriously. We pray for people and cast out demons, and we do it biblically. That’s why sensational spiritual warfare teaching bothers us. People end up more afraid of the enemy than confident in Christ. In this live review, we take LeClaire’s water spirits book back to Scripture and weigh its claims against the text. Bring your questions to the chat as we talk through how to tell sound teaching on the demonic from hype, and what deliverance ministry looks like when it starts with the text rather than the thrill. 0:00 – Introduction 2:40 – Jennifer LeClaire's Water Spirits 11:53 – Biblical Chaos Water Imagery 15:51 – Leviathan in Job 41 22:00 – Serpent Imagery Hermeneutic 27:16 – Behemoth in Job 40 30:42 – Acts 16 Python Spirit 34:11 – Deuteronomy 32:30 Misused 36:56 – Jonah, Job, and Leviathan 49:19 – Rahab and Isaiah 51 1:00:07 – Sneaky Squid Spirit 1:12:14 – Test the Spirits REMNANT RADIO'S INTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministry Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Is Babylon the Great a place you can find on a map? Rome? Jerusalem? A rebuilt city in modern Iraq? Plenty of people would put their money on America. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Josh sits down with Michael Rowntree to trace Babylon through the whole Bible. The trail runs from Cain’s first city and the Tower of Babel, through Nebuchadnezzar’s empire in Daniel, to the woman riding the scarlet beast in Revelation 17. Michael’s new book, The World Made Right, is out now, and this conversation draws on the final section, which he calls a tale of two cities. Josh and Michael investigate: Why does she fall four separate times between Revelation 14 and 18? And why would the beast turn and devour the woman riding on its back (Revelation 17:16)? Josh presses Michael on both. He also asks about the clues that keep pulling readers in different directions: Jeremiah’s prophecy that ancient Babylon would never rise again (Jeremiah 51:26), and Peter’s greeting from “she who is at Babylon” (1 Peter 5:13). Michael brings in Greg Beale, G.B. Caird, Sam Storms, Craig Keener and Richard Bauckham along the way. They also bring the conversation closer to home: the economic collapse in Revelation 18, whether the seven mountains of Revelation 17:9 have anything to do with the seven mountain mandate, and what it means today to hear “Come out of her, my people” (Revelation 18:4). Shawn Ryan turned to psychedelics to quiet what the war left behind. He came back from his last trip, on his own account, describing hell, then months of spiritual oppression and exorcism prayers from two priests. ABOUT THE EPISODE: For years the former Navy SEAL, CIA contractor, and host of one of the most-watched podcasts in the U.S., told his audience that psychedelic therapy helped him with PTSD and addiction. His most recent experience changed his mind. He describes months of nightmares, unexplained disturbances, and a series of exorcism prayers that still hasn’t settled the matter. Joshua Lewis and Michael Rowntree reach the sixth bowl in their walk through Revelation, and with it the only verse in the Bible that names Armageddon (Revelation 16:16). Michael doesn’t think it describes a war between nations at Megiddo. Josh pushes back with Ezekiel 38–39, Joel 3, and Zechariah 14, and the two of them dive deep in back-and-forth dialogue. IN THIS EPISODE: - Why John calls it a mountain when Megiddo is flat - What the Old Testament prophets saw, and what they couldn’t have known yet - How “make war” gets used everywhere else in Revelation - Who Jesus says will be safe when it comes (Revelation 16:15) Join us for an interesting conversation exploring the Scriptures on the end times and Armageddon. 0:00 – Introduction 1:13 – Armageddon: One Last Battle 4:14 – Literal Battle Interpretation 10:37 – Safe in Armageddon 13:18 – Make War as Persecution 20:53 – Mount Megiddo Symbolism 22:34 – Progressive Revelation & Israel 30:05 – Logical Problems with Literalism 35:27 – Global State-Sponsored Persecution 43:01 – Revelation 14 Eternal Gospel 48:34 – Israel Alliance and Idolatry 54:41 – Revelation 19 Final Victory BOOK: 📖The World Made Right by Michael Rowntree: https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee, freed one man from a legion of demons, then sailed straight back (Mark 5:1-21). Why that shore? Scott of BLK SHP Bible Talk suggests an answer, and it starts fourteen centuries earlier with Joshua. God told Joshua the conquest of Canaan wasn’t finished and said, “I myself will drive them out” (Joshua 13:6). Scott’s argument is that Jesus took that personally. Follow where he casts out demons, he says, and you’re tracing the ground Israel never cleared. IN THIS EPISODE: -What God says to Joshua about the unfinished conquest, and why Scott hears a promise in it -Why “Galilee of the nations” (Isaiah 9:1) carries more weight in a Deuteronomy 32 worldview -Capernaum, the far side of the lake, and the road toward Sidon: three exorcisms and what Scott sees connecting them -Giants, Nephilim, and Scott’s view of where some demons come from -The strong man of Matthew 12:29, and how Scott’s reading differs from the way John Wimber preached it -Josh’s question: pattern or coincidence? 0:00 – Introduction 0:36 – Meet BLK SHP Scott 7:25 – Joshua's Unfinished Conquest 11:44 – Jesus, the Greater Joshua 15:06 – Galilee of the Nations 19:14 – Nephilim Giants in Canaan 25:35 – Coincidence or Intentional Pattern? 31:17 – Gerasene Demoniac in Bashan 35:21 – Syrophoenician Woman at Sidon 44:54 – Are Demons Dead Nephilim? 49:38 – No Exorcisms in Judea 56:45 – BLK SHP Scott Resources ABOUT THE GUEST: SUBSTACK: https://blkshpbible.substack.com/ BOOK: Dynasty of Slaves: Uncovering the Archeological Record of Israel in Egypt https://www.amazon.com/Dynasty-Slaves-Uncovering-Archeological-Record/dp/B0H1JTDWSW/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0 Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. In Revelation 7, John hears a roll call: 144,000 from the twelve tribes of Israel. Then he turns to look and sees a crowd from every nation, too big to count. What you make of that moment says a lot about where you think Israel fits in the end times. Joshua Lewis sits down with Michael Rowntree to work through Scripture to better understand the role of Israel in the end times. ABOUT THE EPISODE We recorded this episode knowing the subject is tense. Antisemitism is showing up in places we never used to see it, including among professing Christians, while at the same time many believers have also been taught that loving Jesus means signing off on whatever the modern state of Israel does. So before we get to prophecy, Michael separates three things that get lumped together under one word: ethnic Israel, the nation of Israel, and God’s covenant people in Christ. He also explains his thoughts on “replacement theology” and where he stands on supersessionism. The rest of the hour is Bible. Who are the people of God, and does Romans 9-11 promise a future for ethnic Israel? Did 1948 start a prophetic time clock? Who are the 144,000 in Revelation 7, what is the temple in Revelation 11, and who is the woman clothed with the sun in Revelation 12? Does a third temple have to be rebuilt in Jerusalem before the man of lawlessness appears (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)? And what do we do with Daniel’s seventy weeks (Daniel 9:24-27)? Michael comes at this as an amillennialist, Josh leans a different direction on the temple, and neither of us expects to make either camp happy. In the end, we hope our discussion drives you back to the Scriptures for further exploration. 0:00 – Introduction 5:05 – Replacement Theology Defined 12:00 – One People of God 19:20 – 1948 Prophetic Time Clock 24:37 – Abraham's Land Promises Expanded 28:37 – Revelation 5: Lion and Lamb 31:53 – Revelation 7: The 144,000 34:08 – Revelation 11 Measured Temple 37:30 – Rebuilt Temple and Antichrist 44:27 – Revelation 12 Woman Explained 59:24 – Daniel's Seventy Weeks 1:04:43 – Dispensationalism's Parenthesis Problem BOOK: 📖The World Made Right by Michael Rowntree: https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. "I don't believe in the rapture" has become a common line among Christians tired of end times hype. Michael Rowntree argues that every believer holds to a rapture of some kind. The real debate is when. ABOUT THE EPISODE: We're back in our series on the book of Revelation, and this time Josh and Michael discuss the timing of the rapture, examining pre-tribulation, pre-wrath, and post-tribulation views. They look at Revelation 3:10, Revelation 4, the 144,000 in Revelation 7, and Paul's warning in 2 Thessalonians 2 about the rebellion, the man of lawlessness, and the restrainer. They also discuss what the early church expected. Where does John Nelson Darby fit, and what should we make of Irenaeus and Pseudo-Ephraem? Then Josh asks the question many are too embarrassed to raise: if Jesus is coming down, why are we going up? Join us for a biblically-grounded discussion about the Rapture. Most of us have asked God for more power. Pastor Jon Thompson wants to know when you last asked God what you DON'T get. Jon has spent nearly three decades on staff at Sanctus Church in Toronto. Along the way he led a functionally cessationist congregation into spiritual gifts, spiritual disciplines, and a three-year season of renewal. So when he says "God's 'no' is your best friend," it isn't a slogan. It comes from a close reading of Romans 12:3 and the "measure" God assigns to every gift. ABOUT THIS EPISODE A lot of believers were told that if they prayed harder, fasted longer, and lived holier, more anointing would follow. And when it didn't, some burned out, while others quietly stopped asking God for anything at all. Joshua Lewis sits down with Jon, author of Convergence, to examine whether that promise was biblical in the first place. Josh and Jon discuss: - Why Jon reads Romans 12:3 as a guardrail for leaders, not a ceiling to break through - Whether praying, fasting, and holiness unlock "more" anointing - What 1 Corinthians 14:1 and 2 Timothy 1:6 mean for pursuing spiritual gifts - The regulative vs. normative principle - Where godly ambition comes from, and where it doesn't - Whether spiritual gifts are residential or occasional - Common, office, gift, and assignment authority in deliverance ministry They don't agree on everything. A generation raised on Left Behind was told to watch for a world leader who survives a fatal head wound and rises from the dead. Revelation 13 really does describe a death and a resurrection. But whose death? And when? ABOUT THE EPISODE: Joshua Lewis and Michael Rowntree pick up part two of our 'Who is the Antichrist?' conversation and work through the beast, the wound, and what John wants the church to expect. We Explore: - Where the "Antichrist rises from the dead" idea comes from in Revelation 13:3, 12, and 14 - Whether the wound points to a person, an empire, or something bigger - Why Revelation 12 and 13 may need to be read together - Nero, the Nero myth, and the partial preterist reading of Revelation 17 - The "eighth head" and whether a final persecuting ruler is still coming - Why Revelation 11:15 gives believers a reason for hope, not fear BOOK: 📖The World Made Right by Michael Rowntree: https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ ADDITIONAL RESOURCES MENTIONED: - The Islamic Antichrist by Joel Richardson: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7761560 - Before Jerusalem Fell by Kenneth Gentry: https://a.co/d/08slVT87 - Revelation (The Expositor's Bible Commentary) by Alan F. Michael Rowntree recently posted a short addressing Deion Sanders speaking in tongues at a press conference, and pointed to Paul's instruction that tongues shouldn't be spoken in the congregation with an unbeliever present unless an interpreter is there too, so the unbeliever isn't left thinking you've lost your mind (1 Corinthians 14:23, 14:27-28). Comments came fast: isn't there a difference between tongues spoken publicly in a church service and a private prayer language used to build yourself up (1 Corinthians 14:4)? And what about in Acts when people are speaking in tongues with no interpreter? Was Deion praying in a private prayer language or was he doing what Paul describes as speaking in tongues in church (in public) in front of a mix of believers and unbelievers, where the interpretation rule applies? Joshua Lewis, Michael Miller, and Michael Rowntree will answer the comments, working through 1 Corinthians 14 and the book of Acts. After our episode on John Bevere getting the gospel wrong (https://youtu.be/FXXvRTiLNbQ) blew up in the comments, one argument kept coming back: doesn't the Bible say your obedience keeps you saved? So we called in Theocast's Jon Moffitt to answer your questions. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Joshua Lewis and Jon Moffitt go straight into the texts people cited: Romans 8, Matthew 7, Matthew 19, James 2, John 15, and Galatians 3 and 5. They give a verse-by-verse case that Christ's finished work is what saves and sustains, and that obedience is the fruit of that faith, not the fuel keeping it alive. If you've ever read James 2 and started sweating, or wondered whether the fruitless branch in John 15 is you, this conversation answers your questions. 0:00 – Introduction 2:22 – Jon Moffitt with Theocast 4:00 – Calvinism & Reformed Theology 10:07 – Romans 8 Flesh | Spirit 34:52 – Matthew 7 Workers | Lawlessness 37:54 – Rich Young Ruler 46:54 – James 2 Faith | Works 1:06:51 – John 15 Abiding Vine 1:26:18 – Galatians New Perspective Debate 1:33:06 – Galatians 5 Fruit of the Spirit 1:50:31 – Closing Thoughts On Assurance Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Everyone loves to speculate about who the Antichrist is, but the word "antichrist" never once appears in the book of Revelation. So where did our mental picture of him actually come from, and does Scripture back it up? ABOUT THE EPISODE: Most of what we think about the Antichrist comes from pop culture, not Scripture. So what does the Bible say? Joshua Lewis interviews fellow co-host Michael Rowntree in part 3 of our Revelation series. Together, they work through 1 John, 2 Thessalonians 2, Daniel 7, and Revelation 13 to ask whether the Antichrist is one final man, a recurring category, or something in between. 0:00 – Introduction 1:31 – Singular Versus Plural Antichrist 5:18 – Pop Culture Antichrist View 10:11 – Man of Lawlessness Explained 13:00 – Daniel's Little Horn Imagery 19:09 – Defining the Antichrist Archetype 29:12 – False Teachers and Persecution 34:07 – Daniel's Four Beasts Unified 44:01 – Nero, Hitler, and Popes 49:00 – Avoiding Newspaper Exegesis 54:03 – Practical Takeaways Today 57:28 – Book Recommendation Closing 📖BOOK: The World Made Right: Finding Confident Hope in the Book of Revelation https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. What if the prophecy that came true wasn't from God at all? Scripture says that not only is that possible, but it's happened before. And, it's happening now. How can you tell the difference? ABOUT THE EPISODE: Michael Rowntree tackles the question, "Can demons prophesy?" The answer matters because it changes how prophecy gets practiced, interpreted, and discerned. Starting with King Saul's unsettling character arc across 1 Samuel 10, 18, and 19, Michael traces how the same Hebrew word for prophesying gets applied to the Spirit of the Lord, to a harmful spirit, and to the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18. Michael also examines whether demons can predict the future and explores why that question has to be answered carefully. Satan isn't the opposite of God, and he doesn't share God's omniscience, but Scripture and church history both describe a limited, counterfeit version of foresight that can look convincing. Join Michael to better understand, from Scripture and church history, whether demons can prophesy and learn how to discern the real from the counterfeit. 0:00 – Introduction 0:33 – King Saul's Demonic Spirit 2:04 – Saul's Election Prophecy 2:58 – Spirit of Lord Returns 5:02 – Prophets of Baal 5:52 – Micaiah's Lying Spirit 6:49 – Deuteronomy 13 Nuance 8:01 – Irenaeus and Marcus 9:13 – Chrysostom on Discernment 9:56 – Can Demons Predict Future? 13:17 – Demonic Prophecy Conclusion 14:22 – Testing the Spirits RESOURCES MENTIONED: - 1 Samuel 10, 18, 19 (ESV) - 1 Kings 18, 22 (ESV) - Deuteronomy 13, 18 (ESV) - Isaiah 46:9-10 (ESV) - Acts 16:16-18 (ESV) - 1 Corinthians 12; 1 John 4 - Irenaeus, Against Heresies - John Chrysostom, Homily on 1 Thessalonians 5 Support the show ABOUT THE REMNANT RADIO: The Remnant Radio exists to equip believers who are hungry for the radical middle of both Word and Spirit. Everyone agrees Christians are supposed to serve. The question this episode asks is different: did we accidentally turn the pastor into a trainer instead of a minister, and is that even biblical? Who should actually be ministering? ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Joshua Lewis, Michael Miller, and Michael Rowntree examine T. David Gordon's 1994 ETS paper (link below) that Ephesians 4:11-12 has been misread for decades. Gordon doesn't question whether ordinary Christians should serve. He questions whether the ordained minister was ever supposed to be a trainer at all, or whether that reading caught on because it fit American egalitarian, populist instincts more than it fit the text. We're exploring Gordon's grammar, his word study, and his provocation about American church culture, and testing all three against Scripture ourselves. Does his argument hold up, or does he overreach? And if his proposition holds, what does that mean for churches built on the idea that pastors only equip the saints? How should we read the Book of Revelation? It's easy to write it off as the most confusing book in the Bible, with multiple viewpoints on how to interpret it. Joshua Lewis sits down with fellow co-host Michael Rowntree, author of the new book The World Made Right, to discuss the rules and perspective we should apply to apocalyptic literature (the genre Revelation belongs to). Michael says the moment we reach for a newspaper to decode Revelation, we've already misread it. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Michael and Josh examine why the Apostle John calls his own book "signified" in the very first verse, why Revelation interprets itself and leans on the Old Testament, and why the book was written to form the church, not just predict its future. Michael breaks down the layers of genre at work, apocalyptic, prophetic, and a letter all at once, and why getting that right changes how you read every image in the book. They also explore recapitulation, the way Revelation circles back and re-magnifies the same events (Revelation 4, 6, 11, 16) instead of moving in a straight timeline, and discuss the four major interpretive lenses believers bring to the book: preterist, futurist, idealist, and historicist. Join us to hear why Michael says, "Revelation is for us, but it's not about us," and how reading it with the right rules and perspective turns it into a book of hope, not fear. 0:00 – Introduction 0:56 – Reading Revelation Differently 4:31 – Symbolism vs Literalism 10:14 – Apocalyptic Genre Explained 16:15 – Prophecy Foretelling Forthtelling 20:04 – Revelation As Letter 22:34 – Why Genre Matters 33:06 – Preterist Futurist Idealist Views 37:54 – Recapitulation In Revelation 44:07 – Four Views Compared 54:55 – Tools For Interpretation 58:45 – Book Pre-Order | Available at RemCon ABOUT THE BOOK: The World Made Right: Finding Confident Hope in the Book of Revelation by Michael Rowntree (Zondervan, October 20, 2027 — pre-order includes bonus content, including a commentary on Daniel 7): https://www.michaelrowntree.com/preorder-bonuses/ RESOURCES MENTIONED: The Climax of Prophecy: Studies on the Book of Revelation by Richard Bauckham: https://www.amazon.com/Climax-Prophecy-Studies-Book-Revelation/dp/0567086259 The Theology of the Book of Revelation by Richard Bauckham: https://www.amazon.com/Theology-Book-Revelation-New-Testament/dp/0521356911 Apocalyptic by Leon Morris: https://www.amazon.com/Apocalyptic-Leon-Morris/dp/0802814557 The Fathers on the Future: A 2nd-Century Eschatology for the 21st-Century Church by Michael Svigel: https://www.amazon.com/Fathers-Future-2nd-Century-Eschatology-21st-Century/dp/1496487664 Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Skillet's John and Korey Cooper just described spiritual abuse they endured at an NAR church. Unfortunately, their story shapes a pattern showing up in many churches across the country. Josh, Michael and Michael will speak with a former elder of the Cooper's church to understand what happened and learn how to better recognize spiritual abuse. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: John and Korey Cooper recently sat down for a long, detailed interview on Alisa Childers' YouTube channel (link to full episode below) and described what they say happened inside Korey's lifelong church. Leadership they'd trusted for decades had quietly embraced New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) theology. When the Coopers began asking direct theological questions, they say the response wasn't a proper answer. Instead, it was pressure, prophetic words used against people close to them, and warnings that leaving would cost them God's blessing. In reviewing the Coopers' story, Joshua Lewis, Michael Miller, and Michael Rowntree will walk through what the New Apostolic Reformation actually teaches about apostolic authority, why "sound doctrine" so easily gets redefined once a leader claims that kind of role, and why asking a direct question about a church's beliefs should never be treated as rebellion. We'll look at where this movement's theology runs into what Scripture actually says about who qualifies to lead (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1:9), who the church is actually built on (Ephesians 2:20), and whether any leader, even a real apostle, is above correction (Galatians 1:8). Join us to better understand the Coopers' story and learn how to spot spiritual abuse before it costs you. John Bevere's "Under Cover" has sold close to half a million copies and shaped how a generation of churches views submission. In a previous episode, Joshua Lewis and Michael Miller discussed the dangers of the type of authority Bevere's book promotes (see link below). But does "Under Cover" also present a different Gospel? ABOUT THIS EPISODE Josh and Michael return to "Under Cover" to track how often the book confuses law and gospel, treating obedience as the source of faith and the ground of salvation instead of its fruit. They compare Bevere's own quotes against Luke 14, Matthew 7, Galatians, Hebrews 11, and James 2. Unfortunately, what they find is a consistent pattern: obedience is the ground of assurance instead of its fruit, and faith is treated as something you earn your way into rather than something freely given. Ask a first-century rabbi if biblical prophecy had ceased, and he'd say yes. Ask him if God still spoke, and he'd tell you about the Bat Kol. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Josh, Michael and Michael explore the biblical case that prophecy operates at more than one level of authority. Scripture itself is uniquely inspired, infallible, and authoritative, while other genuine prophetic revelation can still occur without becoming Scripture. To explore this more, we turn to rabbinic Judaism and the fascinating concept of the Bat Kol. Bat Kol means "daughter of a voice." It's rabbinic Judaism's term for a diminished echo of prophecy that kept showing up long after the age of the biblical prophets. This historical evidence suggests that the idea of genuine, non-canonical revelation was not foreign to ancient Jewish thought and may provide important historical support for the continuity view of prophecy. Can you take the mark of the beast by accident? Get it through an RFID chip? A vaccine? A barcode to buy and sell? It's a question that's kept believers concerned, especially with new technologies appearing. But most answers on the Internet start in the wrong place. Michael Rowntree starts in the Bible with Ezekiel and Deuteronomy. ABOUT THIS EPISODE Michael walks through Revelation 13:16–18, then follows it back to its Old Testament roots. His case: the mark of the beast was never a physical mark, but a spiritual insignia, a counterfeit of God's own seal. What it actually signifies is allegiance. Join Michael to understand: - Why Ezekiel 9 and Deuteronomy 6 hold the real key to interpreting Revelation 13:16–18 - How the seal of God in Revelation 7:3 and 14:4 and the mark of the beast counterfeit each other - Why the mark speaks of allegiance, ownership, and protection, and why none of those happen to you by accident - A closer look at gematria, the practice of calculating 666 to pin down a specific antichrist, and why Michael thinks it falls short - What Michael believes it actually means to prepare for the mark of the beast today 0:00 – Introduction 1:11 – Revelation 13 Mark Text 3:34 – Seal Context Revelation 6-7 7:55 – Ezekiel 9 Background 10:00 – Deuteronomy 6 Background 11:57 – Counterfeits in Revelation 13 13:40 – Daniel 7 & the Four Beasts 15:27 – Tests of Allegiance 18:46 – Technology and the Mark 20:20 – Decoding 666 23:48 – The World Made Right 25:21 – Hope in Revelation 📖BOOK: The World Made Right: Finding Confident Hope in the Book of Revelation https://www.michaelrowntree.com/the-world-made-right/ Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. A lot of churches either forbid tongues in public altogether or let them run with no interpretation and no order. Scripture never actually gives you those two options. So what does the Bible prescribe for the gift of tongues in church? ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Josh, Michael, and Michael sit down with the question that splits churches on both sides of the Word and Spirit divide: what does it actually look like to practice the gifts of tongues and interpretation, named together in 1 Corinthians 12:10, in corporate worship, biblically? Not in theory, but in practice, on a Sunday, in a room full of people, with order intact and the body edified. Cessationist churches simply avoid the conversation entirely by not recognizing that the gift of tongues is still for today. Meanwhile, many charismatic churches practice tongues publicly with real sincerity but without the structure Paul actually prescribed: no clear call for interpretation, no one recognized as an interpreter of tongues, no accountability, no sense of "let it be done for building up," for the edification of the church (1 Corinthians 14:26). Both extremes miss what Scripture is actually asking for. As such, many believers are left without a clear, biblical middle to stand on. We'll walk through 1 Corinthians 14 verse by verse, laying out Paul's actual instructions: what tongues in the assembly is for, why interpretation matters, who should speak and how many, and why "let all things be done decently and in order" (1 Corinthians 14:40) isn't a suppression of the gift but the framework that lets it function safely. 0:00 – Introduction 4:51 – Verifying Authentic Tongues Gift 12:14 – Interpretation Required for Every Tongue? 19:38 – Who Calls Interpretation? 33:49 – Tongue And Interpreter Roles 34:48 – Limits On Tongue Speakers 45:53 – No Interpreter Present 49:54 – Singing In Tongues 52:14 – Interpretation Accuracy Standards 1:02:59 – Shutting Down False Tongues 1:10:36 – Order Not Quenching Spirit Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Why do we need a nuclear family? What actually determines the difference between a boy and a girl? These feel like brand-new questions, but the ideas that make them askable were actually seeded four hundred years ago. Dr. Jordan Cooper joins us to trace them back to their source. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Lutheran theologian and pastor Dr. Cooper walks Josh through the philosophical roots of the modern progressive mind and the broader philosophy of the left: Descartes and Cartesian doubt, Kant's Copernican Revolution, Hume's empiricism and skepticism, Hobbes's social contract theory, and Thomas Paine's radical individualism, the intellectual scaffolding beneath everything from critical theory to postmodernism. It's the same scaffolding underneath the questions above. Once Hume argues that even something as basic as cause and effect is just an assumption rather than a certainty, and Kant argues that categories like space and time are imposed by the mind rather than discovered in the world, the door opens to treating categories like family and gender the same way: not given, but constructed, and open to being remade. Dr. Cooper's book Makers of the Modern Mind grew out of years doing campus ministry at Cornell, watching students absorb progressive assumptions and secular philosophy they'd never actually examined. Drawing on his background in Lutheran theology and Christian apologetics, this conversation is a guided tour through where those assumptions came from, and why the question underneath almost all of them, in philosophy, politics, and the modern culture wars alike, is simply: what is a human being? 0:00 – Introduction 1:14 – Dr. Jordan Cooper 2:45 – Lutheran Branding Problem 4:21 – Makers of the Modern Mind 10:23 – Union With Christ Doctrine 16:30 – Descartes' Cogito Ergo Sum 26:38 – Kant's Copernican Revolution 31:33 – David Hume's Skepticism 42:35 – Thomas Paine & Liberalism 51:21 – Right Vs Left Liberalism 56:52 – Applying Philosophy Today ABOUT THE GUEST: 📖https://www.amazon.com/Makers-Modern-Mind-Thinkers-Formed/dp/1952295823 Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. A pastor pulls a college kid on stage, lays hands on him, tells him to "speak the holy language," and when nothing comes out, tells him his faith is weak. That's the true story that opens a recent Dial In Ministries episode on tongues. We're responding to their episode . . . and we agree with more of it than you'd expect. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Jonny Ardavanis and Hank Bowen make a solid biblical case that tongues in Acts and 1 Corinthians means real human languages, not gibberish or glossolalia in the ecstatic-speech sense, and that "tongues of angels" in 1 Corinthians 13 is rhetorical, not literal. We agree with them on both. Where we split: they're arguing from a cessationist frame — that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased with the apostles. We're continuationists and believe the gift of tongues is still active in the church today. We'll discuss where we agree and disagree on the exegesis, and why we land in a different place on whether spiritual gifts like this one continue. 0:00 – Introduction 0:17 – Dial In Ministries Overview 1:57 – Rowntree's Opening Thoughts 2:43 – Miller's Opening Thoughts 4:41 – Acts 2 Known Languages 8:49 – Xenolalia Vs Glossolalia 21:29 – Acts 10 And 19 28:21 – 1 Corinthians 14 Tongues 33:52 – Prayer Language Debate 43:52 – Baptism Of Holy Spirit 53:48 – Preaching Versus Experience 1:04:41 – Tongues In Church History Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Pharaoh's magicians didn't fake it. Exodus 7 says they did the same thing Moses and Aaron did, "by their secret arts." So what does the Bible actually say is happening when magic works? ABOUT THE EPISODE: Nelly Van Sickle, pastor at Evergreen Calvary Chapel and creator of The Dancing Toaster Podcast joins Remnant Radio to walk through his "History of Magic" series, a biblical dig into where magic in the Bible actually comes from, starting in the ancient Near East with Egypt and Mesopotamia. Egypt called its force Heka, something built into the fabric of creation itself, not invoked so much as cooperated with. Mesopotamian mythology named its spirits and negotiated with them directly. If the power on display in Old Testament magic was real, where did it actually come from, and why does Deuteronomy 18 treat some of it as off-limits instead of harmless nonsense? Dr. Michael Heiser used to point out that God doesn't legislate against things that don't exist, and that idea sits underneath this whole conversation: a biblical worldview takes demonology seriously precisely because it takes the supernatural worldview of Scripture seriously. From there, the conversation turns to names, authority, and who actually gets to use the power of Jesus's name in spiritual warfare (think Sons of Sceva). Nelly also shares how researching the ancient occult reshaped his own theology of the supernatural, moving him from cautious and functionally cessationist toward a more continuationist conviction, wanting to see the gifts of the Spirit practiced rightly. The occult is surging back into Western culture, and most Christians don't have a framework for it beyond "that's not real" or "don't go near it." This episode is an attempt to give you one. Have you ever prayed for a breakthrough that never came, and wondered what that says about your faith? Dr. Craig Keener, one of the most respected New Testament scholars, says we're only looking at half the story. He joins Remnant Radio to explore the theology of suffering - not as a theological afterthought for the Spirit-filled believer, but an essential part of the story Scripture actually tells. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Dr. Craig Keener, F.M. and Ada Thompson Professor of Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, has spent his career defending the biblical and historical case for the miraculous. His two-volume Miracles is an essential read for believers (also available in his shorter version Miracles Today). His newest book on suffering turns to the question that so often gets left unanswered: what do we do when we've prayed, and prayed, and the diagnosis doesn't change? Keener explores what Scripture actually shows us about suffering and healing side by side, including in the lives of the apostles. The conversation moves through difficult ground in Christian theology: whether suffering can be God's will, how the crucifixion holds together the greatest evil and the greatest good in human history, and why the two churches in Revelation given no correction from Christ are the two enduring persecution. This isn't an argument against miracles. Keener has given his career to defending them. Rather, it's an invitation to hold suffering and hope together, the way Scripture always has. 0:00 – Introduction 2:06 – Keener's Testimony and Ministry 4:16 – Why Write About Suffering 8:38 – Western vs Global Suffering 14:19 – The Problem of Evil 15:55 – Miracles as Foretaste 23:10 – Purpose Found in Suffering 32:52 – Keener's Divorce and PTSD 41:34 – Faith Defined Rightly 44:46 – Birth Pangs and New Creation 54:16 – Caring for the Poor 58:48 – God's Will and Suffering ABOUT THE GUEST: - Dr. Craig Keener's website — https://craigkeener.com - Suffering: Its Meaning for the Spirit-Filled Life by Craig S. What happens when submission to God quietly becomes submission to a leader? When questioning your pastor starts getting treated like questioning God? Those are the questions we're exploring as we review John Bevere's "Under Cover," one of the most widely read books on spiritual authority in the modern charismatic Church. We're holding up the book's conclusions against Hebrews 13, Romans 13, and what Jesus himself said about leaders exercising authority over believers. Does "Under Cover" hold up? Or does it hand pastors an authority the New Testament never actually gives them? To be clear, we're not arguing against leadership or real spiritual authority rightly stewarded. We're asking where the line sits between genuine biblical submission and spiritual abuse dressed up in biblical language. For a lot of people in the body of Christ right now, that line has gotten blurry, and it's cost them. 0:00 – Introduction 9:57 – Romans 13 and Submission 28:03 – Spheres of Delegated Authority 41:40 – James and Jerusalem Council 59:48 – Submission Versus Obedience 1:18:59 – "Not Being Fed" Excuse 1:31:52 – Discerning Leaders' Decisions 1:39:38 – Exposing Versus Concealing Sin 1:48:28 – Korah's Rebellion Explained 1:55:52 – Ham, Noah, Cover-Up Culture 2:02:33 – Miriam, Aaron, Judgment 2:20:45 – Closing Thoughts and Resources Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. At Kathryn Krick's Houston book signing for "Ignite Revival," over 200 people showed up. Attendees ended up on the floor, shaking, weeping and convulsing, while Krick kept signing copies of her book and called it "revival." Plenty of people online are calling it staged or coercive. Instead of responding to the experiences, Joshua Lewis and Michael Rowntree read the book itself. What they found was more like cultish language than Scripture-based teaching. Krick promotes a clear structure where apostles and prophets hold the greatest anointing, disagreement gets dismissed as "old wine," and readers are steered away from any teacher outside Krick's own lineage, a lineage she traces to her "spiritual father," Tanzanian prophet GeorDavie, not to ordination or accountability. Josh and Michael compare the book against Scripture, chapter and verse. They land on why this pattern isn't just concerning . . . "Jesus Calling" has sold more than 50 million copies across its brand. It's been promoted by Christian leaders, shelved in bookstores and gift shops, and quoted from pulpits. A recent episode from Little Light Studios and Stephanie Griffin Ministries has raised a hard question about it: does this beloved devotional have New Age roots? Joshua Lewis and Michael Miller will explore the claims, call balls & strikes, and help you discern whether this is a book to have on your nightstand or not. Is hell a divine torture chamber? Dr. Paul Copan says no, and he's the one defending the traditional view. In Part 2 of our Hell Debate series, the Palm Beach Atlantic University philosopher and co-editor of the forthcoming Concerning Hell makes the biblical case for eternal conscious punishment while giving annihilationism the fairest hearing you'll find anywhere. Fresh off Kirk Cameron's viral Hellgate roundtable, Copan and Joshua work through the texts, the caricatures, and the question underneath it all: who is the God doing the judging? ABOUT THE EPISODE: When people think of hell, images of the devil tormenting souls with a pitchfork and eternal fire come to mind. Dr. Paul Copan defends the traditional view of hell, but he wants that picture gone. So if that's not hell, what is? And if the popular image is a caricature, what exactly has the church been arguing about? Copan isn't watching this debate from the cheap seats. He was at the table for Kirk Cameron's Hellgate roundtable, the conversation that lit up half the Christian internet. He co-edited the forthcoming book Concerning Hell (IVP Academic) with Chris Date, the very annihilationist who made the opposing case in Part 1 of this series. Friends on opposite sides, writing the book together. Now he sits down with Joshua for the conversation Hellgate didn't have time for. And the texts get harder the closer you look. Jesus calls the prodigal son "lost" with the same destruction language annihilationists build their case on, yet the son walks home alive. Smoke rises forever in Revelation 14:10-11 from something that supposedly no longer exists. Matthew 25:46 puts eternal punishment and eternal life in the same breath, and both sides claim that verse as their own. Copan walks through each one, and along the way he admits something scholars rarely admit on camera: a text he used to read wrong, and what changed his mind about 2 Thessalonians 1:9. Then Joshua asks the question this whole debate keeps circling: at what point does our picture of hell describe a different God altogether? A cessationist prays for a sick friend, and the friend recovers. He calls it answered prayer. A continuationist watches the same moment and calls it the gift of healing. Same event, same God, two labels. And that difference explains more about why this debate stalls than almost anything else. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: The conversation continues. In Part 1, Joshua Lewis and Michael Miller looked at how continuationists and cessationists end up misrepresenting each other: different theological streams, suspicion of motives, judging each other's worst instead of engaging each other's best. This episode picks up where that one left off, and it examines the reasons behind the arguments. Because the deepest divides in this debate aren't really about the facts. Both sides can watch the identical healing and walk away more convinced of their own position. So Josh and Michael dig into the questions underneath: Does personal experience count as theological evidence, or is testimony inadmissible from the start? Why do charismatic scandals go viral while other traditions' failures stay quiet? And how do personal wounds, the cold church that dismissed your experience or the one that manipulated your trust, quietly harden into theology? Join us for an episode on how we can better see each other's point of view and how to find common ground as Christian brothers and sisters in the continuationist versus cessationist debate. What does the Bible actually say happens to the lost? Chris Date of Rethinking Hell joins the show to lay out the biblical case for annihilationism / conditional immortality, the view that the unsaved are resurrected, judged, and then die a second death rather than suffering consciously forever. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Chris spent his first years as a believer firmly convinced of eternal conscious torment, until an interview with the late Edward Fudge sent him back to the text. What followed was months spent trying to defend the traditional view and failing to find a version of it that held up exegetically. In this conversation, he walks through why. A lot of believers are quietly wrestling with the doctrine of hell right now, caught between a traditional view that many find hard to square with the character of God and a universalism that abandons judgment altogether. Chris argues conditionalism is neither of those things: it takes judgment seriously while insisting the Bible describes that judgment as death, not endless suffering. Wherever you land on after watching, Chris's closing word is worth sitting with: this is a debate the creeds leave open, and how we treat brothers and sisters who land differently matters as much as the conclusion we reach. 0:00 – Introduction 0:54 – Chris Date's Testimony 6:49 – Defining Conditional Immortality 14:50 – Tree Of Life Motif 19:37 – Why Hell Debate Now 35:37 – Daniel & Matthew 25 42:22 – Matthew 10:28 Apollumi 49:47 – 2 Thessalonians 1:9 57:21 – Revelation 20 Lake Fire 1:13:35 – Partial Conditionalism Debate 1:20:46 – Rethinking Hell Resources 1:30:52 – Closing Thoughts: Atonement ABOUT THE GUEST: Rethinking Hell: https://rethinkinghell.com/ Chris Date's website: https://www.chrisdate.info/ Chris Date's journal articles: https://www.chrisdate.info/journal-articles RESOURCES MENTIONED: Edward Fudge, The Fire That Consumes: https://www.amazon.com/Fire-That-Consumes-Historical-Punishment/dp/1608999300 Edward Fudge, Hell: A Final Word: https://www.amazon.com/Hell-Final-Edward-W-Fudge/dp/0891121498 Edward Fudge & Robert Peterson, Two Views of Hell: https://www.ivpress.com/two-views-of-hell Rethinking Hell: Readings in Evangelical Conditionalism: https://rethinkinghell.com/rethinkinghell-book/ A Consuming Passion: Essays on Hell and Immortality in Honor of Edward Fudge: https://rethinkinghell.com/aconsumingpassion-book/ Concerning Hell (Copan, Date & Huff, IVP Academic): https://www.amazon.com/Concerning-Hell-Theological-Philosophical-Historical/dp/1514004976 Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Continuationists and cessationists spend a lot of time responding to one another, but how often is that response actually accurate? Joshua Lewis and Michael Miller explore the caricatures both sides fall into when talking about the gifts of the Spirit. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Most debates about the gifts of the Spirit aren't really debates. They're two sides responding to a caricature of the other. Cessationists often get flattened as denying the supernatural altogether. Continuationists get painted as accepting any miracle claim with zero discernment. Neither one is a fair assessment, and in a body of Christ already low on trust, sloppy caricatures do real damage. This isn't a conversation about one bad take or one public figure. Joshua and Michael zoom out to examine the broader habits that shape our theological debates. How should we define each other’s positions? What responsibility do we have to correct our own overstatements? And how can we strongly disagree while still representing one another truthfully? The goal isn't to erase the real differences between continuationism and cessationism. Those differences matter, and this episode doesn't pretend otherwise. The goal is precision, humility, and the kind of Christian charity that's supposed to mark how believers disagree, because you can't fairly critique a position you haven't first tried to understand. 0:00 – Introduction 1:36 – Continuationism & Cessationism Defined 2:29 – Bethel Church Misdefinition 4:38 – Justin Peters Discussion 13:56 – Show Outline Overview 15:32 – Wesleyan Vs Reformed Roots 22:46 – God Told Me Providence 28:21 – Ordinary Vs Extraordinary Grace 40:11 – Suspicion Of Motives 56:02 – Judging Worst Not Best 1:00:26 – Destiny Image Concerns Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Heresy doesn't knock and announce itself. It shows up wearing just enough biblical language to sound credible. Joshua Lewis breaks down Cracking the Time Code by Candice Smithyman (Destiny Image, 2025), offering a robust scriptural critique that doubles as a lesson in how to spot the same patterns anywhere else you find them. Joshua's review traces how the book builds toward a word of faith framework, where your own faith produces blessing and protects against loss, and even extends into a claim that death itself may be optional for a sufficiently "heaven-attuned" believer. If that sounds familiar, it should. Prosperity theology, gnostic anthropology, and low Christology have circled through church history since the first century, just with new packaging each time. Watch this episode to better understand why this book is promoting false teaching and heresy, not Christianity. Additionally, use Josh's teaching as a case study for recognizing the false. The goal is for all of us to get sharper at telling the difference between genuine insight and repackaged error. 0:00 – Introduction 2:16 – Cracking the Time Code 2:32 – Greek and Hebrew Foundations 4:22 – Invented Word Meanings 10:18 – Correct Words, Wrong Theology 15:01 – Word of Faith Imports 21:53 – Gnosticism in the Book 28:01 – Most Dangerous Claims 34:53 – Closing Thoughts Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. There are still God-fearing, God-loving people attending Bethel Church. That's exactly what makes this episode hard to make. But in light of recent events, we have to ask: Have we reached the point of mark and avoid? This is a one-stop, 30-minute review of concerns with Bethel to see the patterns. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Remnant Radio has kept an eye on Bethel for years - through the grave soaking scandal, through Bill Johnson's daughter-in-law describing the Holy Spirit as a "genie," through the New Age framework quietly baked into Physics of Heaven, through Culture of Honor, through Bob Jones and Kenneth Copeland getting platformed anyway, and now through Shawn Bolz. We have reviewed many of these practices and situations over the years, and our comments have grown firmer and sterner toward Bethel leadership. Now there's a new development, and it's not about doctrine. According to Mike Winger's sources, the people currently being let go at Bethel are the ones who kept asking the questions about transformation and change. If that's accurate, it isn't a staffing decision, but a pattern about the thinking and decision making of Bethel leadership. So Josh asks the question a lot of Bethel's own alumni have been asking quietly for months, and finally says out loud what he's suspected for a while: is this still a church working through its mistakes, or has leadership moved somewhere it can't recover from? Are we at mark and avoid? This isn't a pile-on. It's for the people who've genuinely loved this church and are trying to figure out what faithfulness looks like now that the pattern is this clear. 0:00 – Introduction 0:22 – Bethel Controversy Background 3:55 – Grave Soaking & Genie Scandal 5:34 – Michael Brown Interviews Bill Johnson 6:20 – Winger's First Bethel Review 7:21 – Physics Of Heaven Exposed 8:32 – Kenneth Copeland Endorsement 8:58 – Shawn Bolz Scandal Breaks 10:03 – Winger Exposes Shawn Bolz 13:56 – Bethel's Public Apology 16:47 – Passion Translation Plagiarism 17:23 – Layoffs And NDAs 20:01 – NDA Rights And Scripture 27:01 – PR Versus Real Repentance 29:54 – Examine Your Own Church PLAYLIST ON POLICING THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFHSZqA1Q85VKxRrkvEYXBec PREVIOUS RR EPISODES OF BETHEL CHURCH: 2020 - https://youtu.be/sOTdC5LnrVA 2020 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soFFhiYZY-E 2020 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMkKILXkKWs 2020 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRvpVqmk5RU 2020 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6k91pFZWVc 2022 - https://youtu.be/w8b7y7mWIvg 2022 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XlUPjWRqpc 2022 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hseSRlFKzSM 2022 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTcgjtvc91E 2022 - https://youtu.be/9Bys8_ylGUk 2026 - https://youtu.be/TN6UbN0Vq6E 2026 - https://youtu.be/NSWzRCDTPNU 2026 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U1-rugrYZM 2026 - https://youtu.be/PEKIozi7Cjc 2026 - https://youtu.be/z0PTDwlpQPo 2026 - https://youtu.be/AcXNqe4vg6E Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. You were probably taught to read Daniel like a codebook with beasts to identify, timelines to chart, and an Antichrist to spot. Dr. Jim Hamilton thinks the church has been missing the point, and he makes a compelling case that the key to Daniel's strangest visions is hiding in the stories of chapters 1–6. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Dr. Jim Hamilton, professor of biblical theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and senior pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church, joins Joshua Lewis to walk through his book With the Clouds of Heaven: The Book of Daniel in Biblical Theology. His central claim: Daniel wrote real history and real prophecy, and the apocalyptic visions of chapters 7–12 aren't a departure from the narratives of chapters 1–6, but rather a projection of them. Look to the patterns: Nebuchadnezzar attacks God's people, plunders the temple, and tries to indoctrinate the faithful in Daniel 1, and that same pattern gets pressed onto the end times, again and again, until it culminates in resurrection of the dead (Daniel 12:2). Dr. Hamilton makes the case that Daniel interpreted his own God-given visions through a mind saturated with earlier Scripture, describing Nebuchadnezzar's shattered statue in the language of Psalm 1 and Psalm 2. However, the sparks fly on the fourth man in the fiery furnace. Dr. Hamilton argues it was an angel, not the pre-incarnate Christ, and Joshua isn't ready to concede. You'll also get his take on the 70th week of Daniel, resurrection hope in the Old Testament, and why Daniel parallels the book of Revelation. Is it wrong to publicly name a false teacher, or is staying quiet the real problem? Emma Stark of the Global Prophetic Alliance recently released a video arguing that exposure ministries are "measuring fruit in hopelessness," and that real biblical justice can only be administered through a five-fold ministry structure where prophets alone have the authority to remove someone's spiritual credibility. Joshua Lewis and Michael Miller go clip by clip through her argument. ABOUT THE EPISODE: When leaders in charismatic and continuationist spaces are credibly accused of abuse, plagiarism, or false prophecy, who actually has the standing to say so, and does saying so publicly make you the villain? Josh and Michael walk through Emma Stark's claims of relationship with Ron Cantor, Mike Winger, JonMark Baker, and Remnant Radio, and then test her "five-fold justice" model against Proverbs 29:18, Ecclesiastes 9:18, Titus 3:10-11, 1 Corinthians 5, Ephesians 5:11, and 1 Timothy 5:20. The core problem: scripture never assigns justice to a single office. It's given to the whole body of Christ. When that responsibility gets narrowed down to "only prophets can call this out," the practical result isn't more accountability, but less. This is a Word & Spirit conversation from a charismatic theology perspective. We're not cessationists, and we're not interested in throwing out the gifts of the Spirit. But when a new doctrine gets invented and taught as biblical without a single verse that actually supports it, biblical accountability requires we say so. Joe Rogan's latest viral guest claims the Catholic Church genetically eliminated psychic ability from humanity through the Inquisitions. But is that true? ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Joe Rogan recently hosted Dr. Dean Radin, chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, to discuss his "psi gene" theory. During the interview, Radin claimed that the Catholic Inquisitions systematically targeted and killed people with a genetic predisposition for psychic ability, effectively removing that trait from Christianized populations over centuries. It's the kind of theory that sounds compelling on first listen. Joshua Lewis did the historical review to test it. Is this true? Josh also explores the theological question underneath all of this. Why did the early church oppose occult practice in the first place? Was it a power grab as Dr. Radin suggests? Join us to better understand the full discussion. What is simony? And where do you draw the line? Here at Remnant Radio, we do sell courses and conferences teaching people about the gifts of the spirit. We want to be honest and upfront about that, and it's exactly why we're discussing simony in this episode. We want to examine whether what we do holds up under Scripture. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: The word "simony" comes from Acts 8, when Simon Magus tried to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit and Peter answered him: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money" (Acts 8:20, ESV). That confrontation gave the body of Christ an important category for thinking about money and ministry that we're going to explore. What did Peter actually condemn, and what didn't he condemn? Scripture is more specific than most people realize, and the early church, as documented in the Didache, wrestled openly with where the line sits between legitimate support for ministry and exploiting the gifts of God for personal gain. This episode takes a hard look at that line. There are things that should never carry a price tag. Was America's founding a genuinely Christian project, or has that idea been read backward into history by people who want it to be true? Dr. Ben Carson, famed neurosurgeon, former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and founder of the American Cornerstone Institute, joins Joshua Lewis to make the case that the founders' faith wasn't incidental to the American project, but was foundational to it. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Carson walks through the well-known stories: George Washington's providential survival during the French and Indian War, Benjamin Franklin's call to prayer at the Constitutional Convention, John Adams' conviction that the Constitution was built for "a moral and religious people." Carson recounts these as evidence that the founders understood their rights as God-given rather than state-granted and argues this conviction is what allowed the young nation to move as fast as it did. But this episode tackles some of the harder questions about America's Christian roots. In fact, many Christians today are wrestling with where the line falls between honoring faith's role in government and slipping into theonomy or Christian nationalism (using the Bible not just to inform conviction, but to enforce practice). Josh and Dr. Carson walk through the difficult cases, including Thomas Jefferson's private letters calling Paul "the first corruptor" of Christ's doctrine, the Treaty of Tripoli's explicit statement that the U.S. government is "not in any sense founded on the Christian religion," and the uncomfortable reality that some founders held views far messier than the Sunday-school version of American history. What emerges is a conversation about the difference between a Christian moral framework shaping a leader's conscience and a Christian theocracy shaping a nation's laws and why the founders, having fled state-enforced religion in Europe, were careful to avoid recreating it here. Dr. Carson also addresses the founders' inconsistencies head-on, including slavery, and how a constitution "inspired" by Christian conviction could coexist with such a profound moral failure. If you've ever felt caught between two unsatisfying camps with "America was a secular Enlightenment experiment" on one side, and "America should be governed by biblical law" on the other, this conversation gives you a third way to think about it: historically honest, theologically grounded, and avoidant to both extremes. 0:00 – Introduction 0:51 – Built on Faith Children's Book 1:00 – Washington's Providence Stories 4:34 – Christianity Twisted by Marxism 6:09 – Founders and Deism Debate 8:00 – Declaration vs Constitution 11:06 – Theonomy and Theocracy 12:47 – Christian Ethics and Lawmaking 19:12 – Washington's Christian Faith 20:50 – Jefferson's Mixed Beliefs 26:49 – Benjamin Franklin's Faith 33:39 – Treaty of Tripoli Question 35:32 – James Madison and Constitution 38:05 – Christian Political Involvement RESOURCES MENTIONED: - Dr. Ben Carson's children's book, Built on Faith (co-authored with Kirk Parrish): https://www.amazon.com/Built-Faith-Ben-Carson/dp/1967002711 - American Cornerstone Institute: https://americancornerstone.org - Andrew Wilson, Remaking the World: How 1776 Created the Post-Christian West: https://www.crossway.org/books/remaking-the-world-hcj/ - Carl Trueman, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: https://www.crossway.org/books/rise-triumph-modern-self-hcj/ - Treaty of Tripoli (1797), Article 11 (full text): https://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bar1796t.asp Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Can a prophetic word reach someone an argument never could? What if the most effective evangelism tool in Scripture is a detail about someone that only God could have known? JonMark Baker of the Minor Prophets Podcast joins Remnant Radio to talk about the gift of prophecy and words of knowledge as on-mission tools for evangelism. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: We live in a culture that's heard plenty of arguments for God and built a callus against most of them. Apologetics still matters. But what do you do with someone whose heart hardened against Jesus before you ever opened your mouth? That's where a word of knowledge does something logic can't. A divinely-given word proves to a stranger that God sees them, knows them, and has His eye on the actual details of their life. Paul described exactly this in 1 Corinthians 14:24-25: an outsider walks in, the secrets of his heart are laid bare through prophecy, and he falls on his face declaring that God is really among you. It's the New Testament's own case study for prophecy as evangelism. This is a conversation about giftings doing what they were always meant to do: building up the body of Christ, and pushing back the darkness in a culture that needs reminding God is real, and still speaks. 0:00 – Introduction 2:27 – JonMark Baker 4:36 – Prophesying & Availability 9:54 – God Speaks Subtly 20:49 – Spirit, Mind, Thought 25:33 – Prophetic Evangelism Steps 36:38 – Parable of the Soils 44:36 – Power & Evangelism 49:30 – Closing Thoughts Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Samuel Rutherford helped write the Westminster Confession. He also developed a four-part test for evaluating prophetic words. That's not a charismatic running loose, but a Westminster divine doing careful pastoral theology on the gifts. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: There's an assumption that the debate over spiritual gifts is a recent one: a 20th-century Pentecostal invention set against centuries of Reformation clarity. But the historical record tells a different story. John Knox was called "the prophet and apostle of our nation." John Welsh reportedly prayed a dead man back to life. George Wishart publicly predicted Cardinal Beaton's death from the pulpit. These weren't fringe figures. They were architects of the Scottish Reformation. In this episode, Joshua Lewis responds to a four-part viewer question that cuts to the heart of what cessationists often ask about continuationism: 1. Did any Protestant Reformers — Luther, Calvin, Knox, Wesley — actually affirm the continuation of miraculous spiritual gifts? 2. Are there accredited seminaries that teach continuationism, and if so, why don't more charismatic leaders pursue formal degrees? 3. Did the lack of denominational accountability in charismatic churches contribute to the scandals the show has covered? 4. Are continuationists mostly Arminian, or do Calvinists hold this position too? Joshua works through each question with the historical and theological care. The early church didn't just baptize new believers. They delivered them first. For the first several centuries of Christianity, exorcism wasn't a dramatic spectacle reserved for extreme cases. It was woven into the baptismal rite itself, practiced across traditions, and considered a normal part of welcoming someone into the body of Christ. Somewhere along the way, we forgot. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Matthew Esquivel returns to Remnant Radio to walk us through overlooked chapters in church history. We'll examine the deep and consistent link between baptism and deliverance in the early church. From the Apostolic Tradition attributed to Hippolytus of Rome in the third century, to the Seventh Council of Carthage in 258 AD, to the near-universal practice of renouncing Satan as part of the baptismal liturgy, the historical record is clear. The church fathers didn't see deliverance as a crisis intervention. They saw it as part of what it meant to cross from one kingdom into another. This episode is for believers who want to understand deliverance ministry historically and theologically. It's for people who've seen something real in deliverance prayer but haven't had the church history to back it up. And it's for the skeptics who wonder whether any of this has any grounding in Christian tradition. 0:00 – Introduction 4:52 – Baptism & Deliverance Overview 7:31 – Defining Christian Initiation 13:29 – Baptism in Scripture 21:36 – Acts 8 & Typology 31:03 – Tertullian on Baptism 40:45 – Cyprian's Baptismal Rite 58:16 – Augustine's Exorcism Account 1:05:40 – Practical Application Today 1:11:42 – Closing Thoughts INTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministry Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. If a book promises to give you the heart of God while quietly replacing His words with someone else's, that's not a translation. It's a trap. And the trap has a paper trail. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: The Passion Translation has been endorsed by some of the most influential voices in the charismatic world. Bill Johnson called it the best thing to happen to Bible translation in his lifetime. It's been sold in Bethel's bookstore, read in prayer rooms, and handed to new believers across the movement. David Fish and JonMark Baker of the Minor Prophets Podcast spent weeks comparing the Passion Translation, line by line, against its claimed sources. What they found isn't a matter of interpretation. It's documented. Where Brian Simmons departs from the Greek text, and claims an "Aramaic" source, the renderings don't match the Peshitta, the actual Syriac New Testament. They match the Mirror Bible, The Message, and other fringe paraphrases. Fish found over 300 instances in Paul's epistles alone. Simmons also claimed co-translator credentials on a Kuna New Testament. Ethnos 360, the mission that ran the project, says he was NEVER a Bible translator. The organization's own personnel said so on record. The second half of this episode goes deeper: into Simmons' theology. In his own words, in multiple recordings, he redefines the second coming of Christ as an unveiling of a glorified end-times people rather than a bodily return. He calls the physical second coming "not in the Bible." He says, directly: "Christ is no longer a person. He is now a body, a corporate expression." That's not a slip. That's a system, and it has a name: Manifested Sons of God theology has a long history in the fringe of the charismatic world, and Brian Simmons is teaching it from the platform the movement handed him. Most Christians think the debate over spiritual gifts comes down to one question: do they still happen or don't they? Dr. Vern Poythress, 50-year New Testament professor at Westminster Theological Seminary, says both cessationists and continuationists are asking the wrong question. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Dr. Poythress proposes the term "analogous gifts" — the idea that the gifts of the Spirit are genuine, Spirit-empowered works modeled after Christ's own prophetic, priestly, and kingly ministry, but subordinate to it. Not identical to what the apostles did. Not a lower-tier substitute. Analogous with the same Spirit, the same source, a different level of authority. This reframing has real stakes for the cessationist/continuationist divide. The tension in the body of Christ right now isn't just academic: it's shaping how whole churches think about prophecy, tongues, healing, and what it means to be filled with the Spirit. Dr. Poythress argues that if Gaffin is right about New Testament prophecy being infallible, that doesn't end the conversation, but just moves it. There's still a genuine, non-inspired, Spirit-empowered gifting that needs to be accounted for. And if Grudem is right, continuationists still need to reckon with what discernment and testing actually look like in practice. Joshua and Dr. Poythress also discuss the history of cessationism, why it developed as a response to Roman Catholic claims, how the Reformation fought on two fronts (Rome and the enthusiasts), and why figures like Samuel Rutherford and even C.H. Spurgeon complicate the neat cessationist narrative. The episode doesn't try to solve the debate. It tries to widen the table. 0:00 – Introduction 0:44 – Guest: Vern Poythress 3:05 – Analogous Gifts Explained 14:52 – Cessationism vs. Completionism 20:34 – Canon and Prophecy 30:06 – Puritan Prophesying Language 44:04 – RC Sproul's Voice 53:15 – Pursuing Spiritual Gifts 59:09 – Closing Thoughts GROW IN THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT PLAYLIST: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFGpsFnIkPFAIzI4BFoAy3zQ ABOUT THE GUEST: "What are Spiritual Gifts?" by Dr. Poythress https://frame-poythress.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/PoythressVernWhatAreSpiritualGifts.pdf Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. What if the Old Testament prophets weren't just messengers who received words from God, but participants in His heavenly court? That's the proposal Dr. Michael Heiser put forth in his works on the divine council. The Remnant Radio explores this perspective, walks through the texts, and works out what it means for how we think about prophecy today. ABOUT THE EPISODE: Dr. Michael Heiser put forth the interpretative framework that the Old Testament prophets participated in Yahweh's divine council, and access to that court is what distinguished the genuine prophet from the counterfeit. The claim from The Unseen Realm: "True prophets have stood and listened in Yahweh's divine council; false prophets have not." Heiser's proposal focuses on the word sōd, appearing in Jeremiah 23:18 as the sōd YHWH, "the council of Yahweh," and describes what the Hebrew Bible presents as Yahweh's heavenly assembly. Jeremiah deploys it as the credibility test for prophets: the genuine ones have stood in it. The false have not. If that reading is right, the prophetic calling in the Old Testament was more than hearing a message from God. Rather, it was about access to the divine council - admission into the throne room of God. The concept finds support across multiple texts. Amos 3:7 declares that God does nothing without first revealing his counsel to the prophets, and the council scenes throughout the Hebrew Bible show a relationship that is consistently dialogical. Isaiah is caught up into the council of YHWH so that he can give an answer. He doesn't passively receive a scroll. He's present in a scene (seraphim, a throne, a voice asking "Who will go?"), and he responds. This idea matters for the body of Christ right now. The continuationist world is navigating real questions about prophetic legitimacy, accountability, and what it actually means to carry a word from God. Heiser's framework gives us a biblical-theological foundation for those conversations that goes deeper than most of what's currently in circulation. If the sōd YHWH is the dividing line between true and false prophecy in Jeremiah 23, that has implications we haven't fully worked out yet. This episode walks through the key texts and what it means for how we think about the prophetic today. 0:00 – Introduction 3:05 – Divine Council Overview 10:44 – Prophets in the Council 14:26 – Adam, Enoch, Noah 17:55 – Moses and Prophets 20:51 – Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah 23:41 – True vs. False Prophets 32:46 – New Covenant Implications 43:56 – Democratization of the Spirit 45:33 – Warning: Heavenly Travel PLAYLIST OF DR. Bethel Church released a NEW statement via email addressing the controversies and scandals involving their organization and the people they've endorsed and promoted. We've been consistent on this: the charismatic movement needs internal voices willing to evaluate its most influential organizations with theological honesty. Tribal loyalty doesn't serve the people who've been hurt. And reflexive dismissal doesn't serve the people who are genuinely trying to find their way forward. Both are too easy. So we're reading the statement. We're weighing what's there. We'll do our best to call balls and strikes, and give you a framework for evaluating it yourself. Our hope is that this conversation helps you think through what genuine accountability and repentance look like in a public Christian context and what we should actually expect from leaders and organizations when things have gone wrong. 0:00 – Introduction 0:35 – Shawn Bolz Allegations Overview 6:14 – Kris Vallotton's Response 8:05 – Bethel's Statement 14:15 – Governance & Leadership Review 25:39 – Accountability & Safety Update 33:26 – Wider Culture Ministry Review 42:49 – Platforming & Reinstatement Policy 52:05 – California Privacy Law Concerns POLICING THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFHSZqA1Q85VKxRrkvEYXBec ABOUT THE REMNANT RADIO: The Remnant Radio exists to equip believers who are hungry for the radical middle of both Word and Spirit. The question isn't whether the lights in the sky are real. It's what doors you're actually opening when you go looking for them. Something strange has been happening at the intersection of UFO culture and spirituality. People are gathering in the dark, meditating in circles, performing rituals, and then pointing cameras at the night sky and calling it contact. Steven Greer has built an entire ecosystem around it with documentaries, paid expeditions, and a protocol he calls CE-5 or Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind. And long before Greer, a man named Albert Bender was sending telepathic transmissions into space from a room he'd converted into a chamber of horrors, complete with an altar. What is the Christian response? Many believers aren't sure how to engage the UFO conversation without dismissing it entirely or getting pulled into frameworks that are functionally occult. This episode names that tension and gives you a theological map to navigate it. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. His strategy is not to appear monstrous, but to appear luminous, benevolent, and higher. The CE-5 framework, examined through that lens, looks less like a spiritual frontier and more like a very old deception wearing a new coat of paint. And underneath all of it? The desire is real. People want to know they're not alone. That contact with something higher is actually possible. That desire isn't wrong — it's just aimed at the wrong door. John 10:9: "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved." 0:00 – Introduction 0:53 – Albert Bender's Origins 2:47 – World Contact Day 5:40 – Steven Greer & C5 9:18 – Benevolent ETs Claim 13:26 – Prophet Yahweh's Hoax 15:21 – Genuine UAP Phenomena 17:07 – Demonic Spiritual Danger 20:06 – The Gospel Answer Support the show ABOUT THE REMNANT RADIO: The Remnant Radio exists to equip believers who are hungry for the radical middle of both Word and Spirit. The church that prays boldly for healing and the church that honors its suffering members aren't two different churches. They're the same church. Most of us haven't figured out how to be both at once. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: There's a tension running through charismatic communities that almost no one names out loud. We believe the Spirit still heals. We preach it, we pray for it, we build entire ministry cultures around expecting it. And yet, in those same communities, those who are suffering — the chronically ill, the disabled, the ones who've prayed a hundred times and heard nothing — quietly absorb an unspoken message: If you had more faith, you would be healed. If God loved you, that diagnosis would already be gone. That's not the gospel. But it can live inside healing culture without anyone intending it. Has our theology of healing accidentally built a hierarchy of spiritual status? Scripture doesn't let us resolve this tension cheaply. Paul prays three times for his thorn to be removed, and God says no (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). Epaphroditus nearly dies in ministry and Paul mourns it (Philippians 2:27). The man at the pool of Bethesda waits 38 years (John 5:5). The gifts of healing described in 1 Corinthians 12:9 are real, active, and given for the building up of the body, and yet the body includes members whose weakness, Paul says, is indispensable (1 Corinthians 12:22). This episode explores what it looks like to pray with genuine faith and expectation for healing, while simultaneously building communities where suffering is not spiritually oversimplified, those who suffer long are not treated as problems awaiting solutions, and chronically ill or disabled members are not made to feel like a project or somehow less than.
